ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – An altercation on Albemarle Road involving a gun triggered a lock down at two Asheboro schools.
According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at approximately 2:25 p.m., officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the 500 block of Albemarle Road after receiving a call about an armed person.
The callers reported an altercation between multiple people, with at least one who was armed with a handgun.
Asheboro High School, South Asheboro Middle School were placed on lockdown and an officer was posted at the nearby child care facility.
Officers have located and detained individuals they believe to be involved in the original incident and the lockdown has been lifted. The investigation on scene is on-going.
UPDATE — (Sept. 23, 2021 -7 p.m.)
Officers were able to identify two suspects and their investigation led them to a near-by address. Police say a search of the residence officers found and seized a weapon and the following individuals were charged:
- ∙ Tony Eugene Hiatt, 35 year old male from Asheboro Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- ∙ Tony Dillion Ivan, 29 year old male from Asheboro Simple Assault
