According to an accident report from the Asheboro Police Department, just before 1:30 p.m. on January 3rd, 73-year-old Martha Gurgainus was traveling southbound on Cliff Rd, next to the KFC off E Dixie Dr, when she lost control of the vehicle and drove up onto a guidewire of a utility pole on E Dorsett Ave.
The driver told police that she may have been going too fast and that she was attempting to re-adjust her seat when her foot hit the gas pedal, causing her vehicle to drive forward.
Gurgainus was not injured in the accident but was charged with driving too fast for conditions. The report indicates the road surface was wet at the time of the crash.
