ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – Five teenagers are in custody following a robbery of a delivery driver in High Point, which led to a police chase ending in a serious crash and the airlifting of an injured driver.

The incident began on Sunday, September 26, 2021, when High Point Police responded to a report of a robbery. According to the delivery driver from Domino’s Pizza, he was making a delivery to an empty home at 633 Paramount Street when five male suspects forced him inside, assaulted him, and stole his car keys, money, and other belongings. Fortunately, the driver only sustained minor injuries.

Later that day, Davidson County deputies located the stolen vehicle, which initiated a pursuit that concluded when the suspects collided with another vehicle on Fuller Mill Road North in Randolph County. Emergency responders worked to free the other driver, who had sustained life-threatening injuries and was subsequently airlifted to a trauma center.

Following the crash, the suspects fled the scene on foot, but police quickly established a perimeter and conducted a K-9 search. Three suspects were apprehended during the search, and a fourth was arrested shortly after when he attempted to hitch a ride with a passing motorist. The fifth suspect, a 17-year-old, was later arrested in High Point.

The suspects, aged 14 to 17, are facing multiple charges, including Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Kidnapping, and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. An update on the condition of the injured driver has not been provided at this time.
