ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – On Tuesday, September 14th, just after noon, the Asheboro Fire Department was dispatched to a reported commercial fire at Central Gymnasium in Asheboro.
When firefighters arrived they reported smoke but no fire at the historical building in East Asheboro, later discovering signs of vandalism.
Assistant Chief Brown from the Asheboro Police Department reported that witnesses and evidence suggested several juveniles had broken into the building, allegedly broke a panel at the gym’s front entrance, and discharged two fire extinguishers inside.
A CSI detective arrived on the scene to collect the extinguishers for processing. The incident is under investigation, and a detective has been assigned to the case.
No estimates on the cost of the damage are currently available. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Asheboro Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
