Since 2016, Acme News has provided coverage of political rallies for our partner outlets, both locally and internationally. We’ve covered events across the political spectrum, including Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Turning Point USA, Mike Bloomberg, and more.
This year, for the first time, we were denied press credentials. In Aug of this year the Trump campaign refused our request to cover the rally in Asheboro, N.C. Now, we are being denied access again for the upcoming rally in Greensboro, N.C.
Acme News has always aimed to deliver quality reporting and media to our partner outlets. As the news industry evolves, smaller news outlets increasingly depend on services like Acme News to provide essential coverage.
Restricting media access limits the public’s ability to stay informed and erodes trust between the press and the political process. These denials—and the Trump campaign’s refusal to respond to emails and calls—sets a troubling precedent that undermines the fundamental principle of a free press.
We call on the Trump campaign, and any entity hosting public political events, to respect the essential role of the press and grant access to these events.
