DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (ACME NEWS) — The Invictus Task Force, in collaboration with the Kernersville Police Department, concluded a five-day undercover operation in October to combat child exploitation.

Operation Millstone, conducted Oct. 23-27 in Davidson and Forsyth counties, led to the arrests of 23 suspects who, according to a press release, “actually traveled to Davidson County or Forsyth County with the intent to engage in sexual contact and/or solicited sexual contact from whom they believed to be a minor.”

The operation targeted individuals using “multiple undisclosed” online platforms and applications. Charges include felony solicitation of a child by computer, and in some cases, additional crimes such as fleeing law enforcement or assaulting officers. Bonds for the accused range from $10,000 to $250,000.

The operation involved detectives, forensic examiners, crime analysts, polygraph examiners, drone operators, emergency response teams, deputies, and officers from 19 agencies statewide. Participating agencies included sheriff’s offices from Davidson, Forsyth, Randolph, Alamance, Guilford, and Rowan counties, as well as police departments from Archdale, Lexington, Thomasville, Huntersville, and others. Federal and state agencies such as the State Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Secret Service, and U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Division also contributed resources.

“The Invictus Task Force partners with other agencies as a force multiplier, extending the proverbial net to catch the predators who prowl like lions desiring the flesh of our innocent children,” the task force said in a press release. “There is no door we won’t kick down and no corner of this state that we won’t search to track down the dregs of society that prey on our children. Our children are a little safer today due to their efforts and the fact that these predators have been identified and criminally charged.”

Officials expressed gratitude to community partners who provided meals and refreshments to support law enforcement during the five-day operation. Contributors included Lexington BBQ, Southern Lunch in Lexington, West Asheboro Baptist Church, America’s Roadhouse in Asheboro, Elizabeth’s Pizza in Thomasville, and other supporters.
