SEAGROVE N.C. (ACME NEWS) – A short vehicle chase in Seagrove last week led to the arrest of driver after crashing into an embankment.

Seagrove Police Chief J. Auman reported that on July 17th, 2023, just after 2 p.m., he identified a vehicle with a fictitious license plate while on patrol near Little River Road.

When Chief Auman attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Layton did not yield, resulting in a brief pursuit. The chase ended about a mile later when AUman says Layton lost control and crashed while turning from Little River Rd onto Old Troy Rd.

No injuries were reported, and Layton was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including reckless driving, using a fictitious or altered tag, driving with a revoked license, and fleeing to elude arrest. Layton is scheduled to appear in Randolph County Court on August 30th, 2023.
