ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – A baby has been safely reunited with its mother after a man stole a parked running with a baby inside and led police on a chase across the County.

According to the Asheboro Police Department, officers were called to Harbor Freight Tools on East Dixie Drive for a report of a stolen vehicle. Officers spoke with Micah Ashley Boone who reported she had parked and left the vehicle running and unlocked with her eight-month-old child inside while she ran into the store to pick up an item.

While she was inside a white male entered the vehicle and drove off with the child still inside.

The pursuit finally ended on Old Lexington Road near Chamberlin Drive in Asheboro. The suspect was arrested, and the child was located, unhurt, inside the vehicle. After being envaulted by Randolph County EMS the child was reunited with her mother.

The suspect was identified by police as James Allen Harris. Harris was charged with multiple felonies and was given a $50,000 secured bond with house arrest if released. Harris was previously convicted of felony kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm, and a possession of a controlled substance in Missouri following an incident where he severely beat a woman he was in a relationship with, forced her to swallow a wedding ring, and refused to allow her to leave. Harris has also been charged with assault, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and assault by strangulation in North Carolina.
