ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) — A rollover crash at the Asheboro Regional Airport on Sunday claimed the life of a Lexington, according to the Asheboro Police Department.

The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 17, when a white 1996 Toyota T-100 truck entered airport property through Tot Hill Farm Road, drove around the perimeter fence, and entered a large field southeast of the airport.

Police said in a press release that the 35-year-old driver was allegedly operating the vehicle in a reckless manner, causing it to overturn.

Kyle David Dixon, 32, of Lexington, and a 46-year-old male passenger were riding in the truck’s open bed. Both were ejected when the vehicle rolled. Dixon sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a medical facility, where he died on Monday, Nov. 18. The other passenger was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. The driver was unharmed.

Asheboro police are conducting an investigation through their Traffic Unit and will consult with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges are warranted.
