ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police on a motorcycle, making an obscene gesture at officers, crashing the bike and attempting to flee on foot, authorities said.
On June 10, 2022, an Asheboro Police Department officer and trainee spotted a man on a motorcycle on North Fayetteville Street near East Burns Street. The driver swerved toward the right shoulder at Presnell Street before swerving back onto the roadway.
When officers activated their lights and siren near Truliant Bank, the motorcycle driver held up his right arm and made an obscene gesture. The driver continued north on North Fayetteville Street, then turned right onto East Allred Street while accelerating rapidly.
Officers turned onto East Allred Street and found the motorcycle on its side in a driveway near the intersection of Meadowbrook Road and East Allred Street. A man matching the driver’s description was running from the motorcycle toward East Allred Street. Officers ordered him to stop and took him into custody.
The driver was identified as Dustin Scott Marion. He was charged with felony flee to elude law enforcement, driving with a revoked license, displaying a fictitious tag, reckless driving to endanger, no liability insurance, failure to heed lights or sirens and improper use of a registration plate.
He was also cited for expired registration, expired inspection, improper helmet, failure to maintain lane and exceeding the posted speed limit. Marion was served with two outstanding arrest warrants.
He is being held on a total of $17,000 secured bond. A court date was set for June 13, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
