
ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man was arrested after breaking into a garage in Sophia, and the homeowner captured photos of his arrest.
On May 21, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hillsdale Park Drive in Sophia after receiving a report of a breaking and entering in progress. A caller told 911 that a male subject who had arrived on a moped was inside the garage.
When deputies arrived, they saw the suspect attempting to start the moped. The suspect refused to obey verbal commands and attempted to drive away. He was apprehended and taken into custody. Stolen items were recovered from the scene.
The suspect was identified as Jimmy Everette Hughes. During the arrest, Hughes made threatening comments to the victims. He also allegedly threatened officers after being transported to the Randolph County Jail.
Hughes was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor assault and battery, misdemeanor second-degree trespassing, two counts of misdemeanor communicating threats and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
He is being held on a $40,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for May 23, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
