LIBERTY N.C. – Roadway improvements for the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite project will bring upcoming traffic changes and daily lane closures to an intersection on U.S. Highway 421.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced that contract crews will implement daily lane closures on U.S. 421 near Julian Airport Road through mid-June. The closures are required to safely install northbound acceleration and deceleration lanes at the intersection.
The daily lane closures are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Thursday and are projected to conclude by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10. The construction will impact one of the two travel lanes, and state transportation officials expect a medium impact on local traffic.
In addition to the daily closures, the Julian Airport Road crossover of U.S. 421 will close permanently later this week. Following the crossover closure, Julian Airport Road will only be accessible from the northbound side of U.S. 421. This traffic pattern will remain in place until a planned interchange is constructed later in the project.
NCDOT officials cautioned that the scheduled work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
Motorists traveling through the area are urged to slow down, remain alert for crews working near the travel lanes, and prepare for the new traffic pattern.
