
ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man was arrested after police say he attempted to use a stolen forklift as a getaway vehicle on a Randolph County road.
On Sept. 12, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Davis Country Road after receiving a report that a suspect was actively stealing a forklift.
Deputies located the forklift traveling on Branson Davis Road toward Highway 311 and stopped the driver at the intersection of Branson Davis Road and Knoll Drive.
The driver was identified as Robert Wayne Baxter. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail.
A magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony larceny of construction equipment and felony possession of stolen goods.
