RANDLEMAN, N.C. — A High Point man was arrested and charged with shooting into a vehicle on Interstate 74 in July, injuring an infant passenger, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Jakeith Sabreyonn Hargrove, 22, was arrested Sept. 23 by the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and remanded to the Forsyth County Jail before being transferred to the Randolph County Jail.
On July 31, 2021, deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident near Cedar Square Road on I-74. While en route, 911 dispatchers advised that a child at the scene may have been injured by gunfire.
Upon arrival, deputies found two vehicles — one on the westbound side of I-74 and another in the median on the eastbound side. Investigators determined that occupants of one vehicle fired several shots at the other vehicle just before the accident.
An infant passenger was transported by EMS to a hospital with a possible gunshot wound to the leg. Another male passenger was transported with injuries believed to be from the crash.
Two suspects fled the scene on foot. Deputies called K9 teams from the Sheriff’s Office and High Point Police Department, and received air support from the N.C. State Highway Patrol. After several hours, the suspects remained at large.
On Sept. 15, detectives obtained warrants for Hargrove for four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury and four counts of felony discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle.
He was arrested Sept. 23 and held on a $1 million secured bond. Hargrove appeared in Randolph County District Court on Sept. 27, 2021.
A second suspect remains at large.
