ASHEBORO, N.C. — Police are investigating a robbery attempt at a park that ended with shots fired, leaving one man wounded.
On Aug. 1, 2022, just after 10 p.m., Asheboro Police Department patrol officers were dispatched to Frazier Park at 517 West Wainman Avenue after receiving a report of shots fired.
Officers found a juvenile and Heleodoro Juarez-Garcia at the park. Garcia said his Ford pickup was struck by a bullet while he was driving west on Wainman Avenue. He stopped his vehicle and walked into the park, where he found the juvenile.
The juvenile told officers he and a friend were in the park when three men confronted them. One of the men was armed with a rifle. The group attempted to rob the juveniles and fired several rounds into the ground near them.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators collected spent shell casings from the area. They followed a blood trail to another address on West Wainman Avenue.
At that location, officers found Joseph Warren Armfield with a gunshot wound to his lower leg. Armfield was uncooperative with officers and refused treatment.
