ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) —Two people died at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 64 on Monday afternoon, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 4:37 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and Tabernacle Church Road.

According to the Highway Patrol, a Freightliner box truck traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 64 collided with a 2022 Jeep SUV as the SUV attempted to cross the highway to continue south on Bescher Chapel Road. The SUV’s driver failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

Linda Hunt Davis, 79 —the driver of the SUV— and her passenger William Wesley Hodgin, 78, both of Sophia, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck’s driver was not injured.
