ASHEBORO, N.C. — A High Point man faces multiple felonies after leading police on a high-speed chase and hitting a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, authorities said.
Bradley Allen Byers was arrested Monday after officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at 281 Tremont Drive shortly before 6 p.m., according to a police statement.
Officers found Byers armed with a firearm at the scene. He fled in a blue Dodge pickup truck, and officers located him nearby and initiated a traffic stop. Byers exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and refused to comply with commands, then re-entered the truck and led officers on a high-speed pursuit.
Asheboro police and Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies pursued Byers out of Asheboro onto Interstate 73/74, reaching speeds of up to 95 mph. During the chase, Byers struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle, causing damage.
The pursuit ended when Byers pulled over at the Level Cross exit, where he was taken into custody.
Police found two handguns in the vehicle along with a spent shell casing, multiple rounds of ammunition, a bullet-resistant vest, multiple containers of alcoholic beverages, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Byers was charged with driving while impaired, felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, possession of marijuana, hit and run, reckless driving and communicating threats.
He was booked into the Randolph County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
