ASHEBORO, N.C. — A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of his grandmother in Asheboro on Saturday.

Brian Cody King was apprehended Monday at a hotel in Cornelius, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team.

Deputies responded Saturday to a stabbing call at 219 Emmanuel Church Road in Asheboro and found Harold Stephen King, 73, dead inside the residence. An investigation identified Brian Cody King as the suspect.

After the stabbing, King left the scene with an older female victim, who was dropped off hours later at an unnamed location in Thomasville. The female called 911 and was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims were King’s grandparents.

Police located a red 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, which King had been operating, in Mooresville on Sunday morning. A search of the area did not locate King.

King was arrested at the hotel in Cornelius and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served a warrant for felony murder. He was initially held without bond.

During the booking process, methamphetamine was found in his possession, resulting in additional charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises. A magistrate found probable cause for the additional charges, and King was given a $5,000 secured bond on those offenses.

King is charged with felony murder, felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.
