ASHEBORO, N.C. — Four people were hospitalized after a head-on collision on Old Liberty Road Friday evening, and police are searching for a driver who fled the scene on foot.
The crash occurred at 5:39 p.m. Oct. 15, 2021, near Central Falls Road when a blue Dodge making a left turn collided with a Honda, according to an Asheboro Police Department accident report.
Asheboro Police and Fire departments, Randolph County EMS and Ash-Rand EMS responded to the scene. Four people were transported by ambulance and three children were taken to the hospital by their parents.
The driver of the blue Dodge was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Multiple 911 callers reported that a male suspect had fled the collision scene on foot and was walking down Old Liberty Road. By the time first responders arrived, he was gone. Officers interviewed several witnesses who saw the suspect leave.
The accident report notes that the license plate on the gray Honda did not match the vehicle. Officers spoke with the registered owner, who said the vehicle had not been stolen and that he had transferred the title.
Police are continuing to investigate and seek the whereabouts of the suspect who fled the scene.
