ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man is in custody after leading sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase across two counties that ended with spike strips disabling his vehicle.
The pursuit began shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2021, when a Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle south of the Ulah Troy exit on Interstate 73/74. The driver instead accelerated back onto the interstate heading south at speeds approaching 100 mph, according to law enforcement radio traffic.
The driver exited at Seagrove, where he briefly stopped at the top of the exit ramp and a passenger fled on foot. The driver then continued south on I-73/74 into Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Biscoe Police Department and Star Police Department joined the pursuit. The Biscoe Police Department successfully deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle and ending the chase.
The driver was identified as Antonio Tarcarlo Davis. He was taken into custody and transported by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation.
A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana. Upon his release from the hospital, Davis was transported to the Randolph County Jail.
Davis was charged with felony flee to elude arrest, felony possession with intent to sell or distribute a Schedule VI controlled substance, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, misdemeanor simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, driving with a revoked license, failure to display tail lamps, speeding and aggressive driving. He also was served with outstanding arrest warrants.
He is being held on a $47,000 secured bond and appeared in Randolph County District Court.
A passenger who fled on foot at the Seagrove exit remains at large. Anyone with information about that suspect is asked to contact the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
