AASHEBORO, N.C. — A woman has been arrested in connection with five separate fires set in the Asheboro area on the same day, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Tierra Shannice Smith was arrested March 4, 2022, and transported to the Randolph County Jail after detectives identified her as a suspect in the fires that occurred March 3.
Fire crews and the Fire Marshal’s Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to investigate five separate fires on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. One fire spread to a vacant outbuilding, a second ignited three vehicles and three others burned wooded areas. No injuries were reported.
Detectives investigated the fires as arson and generated evidence identifying Smith as a suspect. A magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony burning certain buildings, felony burning personal property and five counts of misdemeanor setting fire to woods.
Smith is being held on a $15,000 secured bond with electronic house arrest as a condition of release. A first appearance was set for March 7, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
