ASHEBORO, N.C. (ACME NEWS) — The North Carolina Zoo will mark Earth Day on April 22 with a series of environmental activities and educational programs across the park.
The Zoo will host a seed giveaway of North American native flowers from noon to 4 p.m. at the North America and Africa exits. Simultaneously, the Zoo will run a cup and bottle exchange program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North America and Africa entrance plazas, where visitors can exchange aluminum cans or plastic beverage bottles for refillable souvenir water bottles.
The Zoo’s Kid Zone will feature several Earth Day activities, including a ribbon tree where visitors can add climate change messages, composting talks and demonstrations, and information about the City Nature Challenge and the AZA BioBlitz program.
Visitors also have the option to bring old electronic devices for recycling. The Zoo is partnering with Gorillas on the Line, with proceeds supporting the Gorilla SAFE program, which works to protect gorillas in the wild.
