ASHEBORO, N.C. (ACME NEWS) — Two employees stabbed each other during a fight at a fast-food restaurant Tuesday morning, prompting a lockdown at nearby schools and leading to the arrest of one suspect, police said.
The incident occurred around 10:22 a.m. at Wendy’s, located at 623 West Dixie Drive, according to the Asheboro Police Department.
Taylor Shawn Tucker, 22, was present when officers arrived and was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of a stab wound. Initial witness accounts suggested the suspect fled the scene on foot.
As a precaution, officers notified school resource officers at Asheboro High School and South Asheboro Middle School, both in close proximity to the restaurant. School administration issued a shelter-in-place order.
A witness later reported the suspect was driving a gold Toyota passenger car that left the area in a reckless manner. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle in Randleman and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local medical facility for treatment of a stab wound.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted after the suspect’s arrest. The suspect’s name was not immediately released.
Editor’s Note: The Asheboro Police Department’s original press release incorrectly identified the middle school that issued a shelter-in-place order as North Asheboro Middle School. The correct school was South Asheboro Middle School. There is no information that North Asheboro Middle School went into shelter-in-place.
