ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man has been charged with murder after a victim died from injuries sustained in an assault at a Ramseur home.

Andrew Roberson Marley III, 36, was found unconscious in a residence on Fox Grove Road on May 23, 2022, after deputies responded to a report of an assault. Fire and EMS provided medical treatment before transporting him to a hospital. He died from his injuries on May 26, 2022.

Criminal Investigation Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators took over the case, leading to warrants being issued for Patrick Andre Marley for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious bodily injury.

On May 24, 2022, at 5:15 p.m., Marley was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team. He was issued a $150,000 secured bond on the assault charge.

After Marley III’s death on May 26, 2022, an additional warrant was sought for felony murder. A magistrate found probable cause and issued the warrant. Marley was served the warrant while in custody at the detention center. No bond was authorized for the murder charge.

A first appearance on the murder charge was set for May 26, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.

The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect and victim knew each other but has not established a motive. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
