ASHEBORO N.C.(ACME NEWS) — An Asheboro police officer has resigned after being charged with driving while impaired while off-duty, authorities said.
M’Leigha Tashona Brown, 25, was pulled over on U.S. Highway 64 near Presnell Street in the early morning hours of May 27, 2022, after a patrol officer suspected impaired driving. North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers were requested to respond and transported Brown to the Randolph County Jail for a breath test.
The test registered a blood alcohol level of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit, according to the Highway Patrol.
Brown was charged with driving while impaired and failure to maintain lane control. She resigned later that day, according to Assistant Chief Robbie Brown of the Asheboro Police Department.
Brown had been with the department since Nov. 15, 2019.
She is scheduled to appear in Randolph County District Court on June 20, 2022.
