ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Asheboro Police Department has charged seven individuals and businesses after finding they sold alcohol to underage customers during compliance checks at local restaurants and retailers.
From Dec. 6-8, 2021, the Police Department’s Vice unit and agents from North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement conducted undercover purchases of alcohol using an underage operative at several establishments. The operation was part of the department’s contract with the Asheboro ABC Board to conduct underage compliance checks at a minimum of 25 percent of ABC-permitted businesses in the city each year.
Seven individuals were charged with selling malt beverages to persons under age 21, according to police reports. The following businesses received violations, which were forwarded to the Asheboro ABC Board: Dodge City Steakhouse, Dollar General on North Carolina Highway 49, Una Mas, Chili’s Bar & Grill, La Hacienda III, Don Julio’s and San Felipe.
Penalties
North Carolina law prohibits selling alcohol to anyone under 21. A first offense can result in up to 150 hours of community service and a $250 fine. Those charged were scheduled for court dates in early February.
