ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men in connection with burglaries, including one suspect caught red-handed breaking into a home where family members were hiding in a bedroom.
On Oct. 16, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress on Hawthorne Drive in Asheboro. Deputies located the suspect inside the residence and ordered him to exit. When he came out, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly arrested.
The victims were found unharmed in a locked bedroom. Deputies discovered a broken window where the suspect had entered.
The suspect was identified as Raymond Schofield Hyatt. He was charged with felony first-degree burglary, misdemeanor resisting a public officer and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He also was served with two failure-to-appear warrants.
Hyatt is being held on a total of $36,000 secured bond ($25,000 for the burglary charges and $11,000 for the failure-to-appear warrants). A first appearance was set for Oct. 18, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.
On Oct. 13, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at a home on Westchapel Road in Asheboro. Deputies found that someone had broken in and taken several items. Crime Scene Investigators and detectives collected evidence.
The next day, Oct. 14, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office was called back to the same home. Deputies found a vehicle in the driveway matching a description given by witnesses. The front door was open, and as deputies approached, Charles Kevin Satterfield walked out and was arrested.
When the homeowner arrived, she found a book bag containing items stolen during the previous day’s burglary, including a set of keys. A search of the book bag led to additional evidence of theft.
Satterfield was charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of felony possession of stolen goods or property.
He is being held on a $7,500 secured bond and had a first appearance in Randolph County District Court.
