TABERNACLE, N.C. — A suspected prowler was arrested and faces multiple charges after being shot by a homeowner during an attempted assault Saturday afternoon, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the area of Post Road on May 29, 2021, after a homeowner called 911 to report a trespasser on their property who refused to leave.
Shortly after placing the call, the homeowner noticed the interior lights of their vehicle were on and went outside to investigate. According to sheriff’s office officials, the suspect threatened and assaulted the homeowner. The homeowner, who was armed, shot the suspect before the suspect fled the area on foot.
Responding deputies searched the vicinity and located the suspect at a neighboring residence.
Authorities identified the suspect as Salvador Santiago Barwick. Barwick was evaluated by emergency medical services and treated at a local hospital.
Following his release from the hospital, Barwick was booked into the Randolph County Detention Center after a magistrate found probable cause for the following charges:
- Felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle
- Felony breaking and entering a building
- Felony larceny after breaking and entering
- Felony possession of stolen goods or property
- Misdemeanor larceny
- Misdemeanor possession of stolen goods or property
- Misdemeanor assault and battery
Barwick was held under a $25,000 secured bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for June 1, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.
