ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men on charges involving sex crimes against children.

Michael Ray Roberts, of Davidson County, was arrested July 9, 2021, on charges of two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.
Deputies received a report of a rape on May 19, 2021. Investigators gathered evidence that a magistrate found sufficient for charges against Roberts. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office arrested him at his residence and transferred him to Randolph County authorities at the county line.
Roberts is being held under a $20,000 secured bond. His court date was set for July 12, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.

Chad Lee Helms was taken into custody July 12, 2021, on charges of 10 counts of felony second-degree exploitation of a minor.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Internet Crimes Against Children unit received information from a patrol deputy on July 12 that Helms was attempting to deliver inappropriate items to a juvenile. Detectives presented evidence to a magistrate, who found probable cause to issue arrest warrants.
Helms is being held under a $20,000 secured bond. His first appearance was scheduled for July 16, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigations are ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
