ASHEBORO, N.C. — A wanted man was arrested after leading police on a vehicle chase that ended in a crash on Highway 62 over the weekend.
On Oct. 2, 2021, a Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle on Highway 311 near Shean Drive in Archdale. The driver immediately accelerated and fled, leading police on a pursuit through Archdale, Trinity and onto Highway 62.
Near the 5200 block of Highway 62, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and collided with trees. Deputies pulled the suspect from the smoking vehicle and placed him under arrest.
The driver was identified as Jonathan Luke Edwards. Fire and EMS crews responded to evaluate Edwards. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to investigate the accident.
Edwards was transported to the Randolph County Jail and charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony flee to elude with a motor vehicle, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, aggressive driving, failure to heed lights or sirens, speeding, red light violation, illegal passing and injury to real property.
The State Highway Patrol also cited Edwards for driving with a revoked license, reckless driving and no liability insurance.
Edwards also was served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on prior felony charges of breaking and entering and a probation violation.
He is being held on a $21,000 total secured bond.
